Tech leader and North Sydney councillor James Spenceley is aiding the people of Ukraine with the purchase of two ambulances which will be delivered to the war-torn country by the end of the month.

Mr Spenceley will drive one of the vehicles from France to Ukraine on May 21, to personally deliver a fully kitted-out ambulance.

“I’ve been looking for ways to help the people of Ukraine and last week I struck on the idea of getting ambulances there,” Mr Spenceley said.

“By purchasing and delivering ambulances it means aid can reach the people directly.

“I’ve been able to access completely pre-assembled medical kits for about $2,500 a set, which we are able to equip the ambulances with.”

Mr Spenceley’s wife Viktoria is from Ukraine and in daily contact with family and friends who’ve said there is an enormous need for medical supplies.

“When someone is injured due to the fighting and bombing, the trip to hospital is happening in the back of cars,” Mr Spenceley said.

“People are dying because there is not enough adequate medical care and a donated ambulance will save five lives each day.”

The newly minted Councillor said the second ambulance he’s purchased will be donated on behalf of the people of North Sydney.

A third will be purchased through crowd funding.

“Every little bit will help,” Mr Spenceley said.
