'Oxygen Thieves': Vandals attack Mosman RSL club with Swastikas and racist graffiti.
By ANNA USHER.
Mosman RSL has been defaced with swastikas overnight.
Vandals painted the symbol of hate in the club’s stairwell, distressing staff members who discovered the vile attack just before 9am this morning.
The word “Nazi” – in huge lettering - was also scrawled in white paint, alongside other graffiti.
Mosman Club General Manager Gerard Boyle told Mosman Collective he was “appalled” by the racist desecration, calling the offenders “oxygen thieves”.
“It is a shameful act that represents the ultimate in racial hatred,” he said.
“We have members of this club who are returned soldiers and a few who fought against the Nazi regime in World War Two.
“One of our female members unfortunately saw the swastikas and to say she was devastated is an understatement,” he said, “her father had fought in the second world war and was a long time Mosman resident.”
Mr. Boyle said he had spent the morning going through CCTV footage, which will be handed over to police later today.
Mosman Councillor Roy Bendall said he was “sickened” by the deplorable act, saying those responsible will be caught and brought to justice.
“To think such hostile behaviour exists in our community is distressing for the Club, its staff and its patrons,” Councillor Bendall said.
“I am absolutely disgusted that an RSL Club would be targeted in this manner.
“Blatant anti-Semitism, racial hatred and disrespecting our veterans and war dead will not be tolerated in this community.”
This is the third time swastika symbols have been used to deface local buildings. Earlier this year, both Mosman Council and the Cremorne Synagogue were targeted.
