Fire Emergency: Mosman media identities involved in dramatic kitchen fiasco!
By STAFF WRITERS.
A fire emergency that forced the evacuation of a Vista St apartment building has left three media personalities shaken, after an unattended saucepan caused a kitchen catastrophe just before 8pm last night.
Nova 96.9’s Breakfast Newsreader Matt de Groot and his journalist fiancée Bronte Coy, noticed smoke billowing from their neighbour’s apartment, saying they became “extremely worried” for the welfare of its high-profile occupant, when there was no answer at the door.
“We were concerned, that’s for sure,” Matt said, “it certainly was a fairly chaotic situation for a Monday night in Mosman.”
At the centre of the drama was Australian etiquette expert Anna Musson, who had left her apartment briefly, with a pot of brown rice cooking on the stove.
“My husband and I popped over to Bridgepoint to grab some groceries and we stupidly left the saucepan bubbling away,” Anna told Mosman Collective.
“We are very lucky that more damage wasn’t caused.
“It honestly could have been a terrible situation, if it wasn’t for the quick thinking of others.”
Anna said she and her husband Dan were heading home over the Bridgepoint pedestrian bridge, when she saw the Nuova building concierge running towards them.
“She was in quite a state and told us that our apartment had smoke coming from it,” Anna said.
“Immediately we thought the worst, and as we headed down the Fitness First escalator, into Vista St, we could actually smell the smoke.
“That’s when I remembered that we’d left the stove on,” she said.
Anna says she and Dan made it inside their haze filled home “in the nick of time” and that they were “moments from disaster”.
“The fire alarm was screaming, emergency warnings were being announced, and we were all told to evacuate to the lobby,” Anna said.
“Thankfully Matt de Groot was there to keep me calm and he even managed to crack a few jokes.”
Matt said he and Bronte were not planning to visit Anna’s apartment “any time soon” for dinner, adding that Australia’s etiquette queen is clearly “no domestic goddess.”
It’s a sentiment echoed by Anna Musson.
“I might be the expert at setting tables, folding napkins and using the correct cutlery – but don’t let me cook,” Anna laughs.
“The secret is out and it’s now clearly evident that I am a complete disaster in the kitchen.
“My lovely neighbours Matt and Bronte won’t ever let me live this culinary catastrophe down.”
