Exclusive: Rancan Sisters Reveal Their Health and Fitness Secrets To Staying Young
THE RANCAN SISTERS HAVE SHARED THEIR PASSION FOR HEALTH AND FITNESS OVER FOUR DECADES. FROM THE HEADY DAYS OF AUSTRALIAN TV STARDOM IN THE 1990'S, THAT PUT THEM ON THE WORLD STAGE IN LONDON AND LOS ANGELES, THEY HAVE BUILT AN ICONIC BRAND, NOW BASED IN MOSMAN, AS ANNA USHER REPORTS.

From neon-bright, lycra leotards and fuzzy leg warmers of the 1980’s, to the data driven activity trackers of today, trailblazing twins Adele and Lisa Rancan have seen it all.
And despite helping the likes of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman stay supremely fit, the sisters are now focussed on transforming the health and fitness of Mosman locals.
“You name them, we’ve trained them,” Adele tells Mosman Collective.
“Dannii Minogue, Gerri Halliwell and Raquel Welch have all visited us at one time or another – but our real passion is keeping our own community in good physical shape.
“Lisa and I are dedicated to helping others reach optimum health, no matter what it takes,” she said.
Now aged 55 but looking decades younger, the gorgeous twins are a picture of health, vitality and positive energy; thanks to a more holistic program of health and wellness at their Rancan Sisters Fitness studio in Headland Park.
“Our studio in Georges Heights is not a gym – it’s a sanctuary and a true escape for our clients,” Adele says.
“There is a completely unique vibe here that is so different from the myriad of franchised gyms that are so popular these days.
“We don’t churn and burn through members,” Adele continues. “Our clients are like our family and we offer a bespoke, personal service that you won’t find anywhere else.
“The studio is very open, with fresh air and beautiful views and it feels very much like a resort.
“Through our experience, we’ve found that gyms can actually be a very stressful thing for some people, which is why we’ve taken away things that create a sensory overload.
It’s a far cry from the heady days of TV stardom, when the sisters appeared every day on Good Morning Australia, with high voltage aerobics routines that made them household names.
“Big hair, lots of hairspray, lots of makeup – it was a crazy time in our lives - but so much fun,” Adele laughs.
“We were on-camera Monday to Friday, wearing g-string leotards and doing the grapevine and hamstring curls – while our viewers sat at home munching on their Weetbix.
“Probably with their jaws on the ground!”
Regular radio and magazine features followed, and then came a popular series of Rancan Sisters fitness videos, that sold out around the country.
“People just couldn’t get enough of aerobics at that time,” Adele says.
“We were the first in Australia to introduce step aerobics and that was a real revolution in the fitness industry.
“Luckily, being ahead of the game is something the Rancan Sisters brand has always managed to achieve.”
Adele and Lisa say their long line of “firsts” includes running group Pilates Reformer sessions, Barre classes and Power Plate workouts.
“We were the first to combine Pilates and Spin bike work outs, Pilates and Barre work outs and Yoga and Kayaking combos,” Adele says.
“We even were the first fitness brand to introduce Doga classes – that’s yoga with your dog!”
Rancan Sisters Fitness at Headland Park features small classes and a non-competitive environment, where women “raise each other up,” according to Adele.
And when it comes to their age defying secrets, she says there is no “magic potion”.
“We maintain a positive attitude and we really practise what we preach,” she says.
“That means looking after your mind and your body with a regular workout regime, nutrition – and taking time out to de-stress.
“Managing your sleep is also crucial in any health regime.”
She recommends “mixing it up” when it comes to exercise, and says Rancan Sisters clients have wonderful success with a combination of Pilates, Barre, Power Plate and Spin classes.
“We are all about offering affordable personal training, in small groups, to our fantastic Mosman area residents,” Adele tells us.
“After all, a healthy community is a happy community.”
