Mosman’s Next Top Model: Meet Harry Kennedy, the kid on the cusp of an international catwalk career.
By ANNA USHER.
Until recently, Harry Kennedy was planning for a future as an investment banker.
The Year 11 student from Shore had chosen his HSC subjects, made plans to sit the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) required for entry into an American college, and was enjoying weekends eating Maccas and “just hanging” at the beach.
Now, the 16-year-old is on the cusp of international fame, after his mum entered the 190cm Mosman local into the 2019 Top Model Australia Search, “for a bit of a lark.”
“It’s all a bit accidental to tell you the truth,” Harry told Mosman Collective.
“I got selected to do this competition and had never been on a catwalk before, which was daunting in itself.
“But somehow I got through to become NSW finalist, and there is a chance I’ll be off to London in the coming months,” he said.
Harry’s social media popularity has surged this year, with a legion of female fans following his every move on Instagram, and his account now boasting nearly 18,000 followers.
“I actually don’t quite understand why so many people are following me, it’s kind of crazy,” he said.
“Especially because I had hardly any followers at the start of the year.
“It’s just kind of blown up.”
A GPS swimmer, who’s also a member of Balmoral Beach Club, Harry says he will complete his H.S.C next year, but instead of heading straight to university, he intends to explore his options in the world of modelling.
“If I have the opportunity to make some good money through modelling internationally, then my tertiary degree can wait a few years,” he said.
“It’s great because I have the support from my family and also the boys at school.”
Harry hopes to follow in the footsteps of fellow Mosman models (and twins) Jordan and Zac Stenmark.
“I guess male modelling isn’t really a traditional career path, but a job as an investment banker can wait – for now at least,” he laughs.
“My dad reckons it’s a smart move to get a financial head start through modelling, so I’m willing to see how far it can take me.”
Harry will face the Top Model judges in the Australian finals, to be held early next year in Melbourne, where he will find out if he’s London bound for the International Top Model Grand Final.
