Master Photographer Graham Monro launches new coffee table book featuring Mosman families. Are you inside?
By ANNA USHER.
He’s documented the lives of local families for generations, capturing precious moments and milestones with his award winning, unique style of photography – and now Graham Monro is sharing his stunning work with a wider audience, in a new coffee table book, called “Past and Present”.
The Master Photographer was inspired to create the book after the death of his own mother last year, when he realised how fortunate he was to have photographed much of her life.
“I had always taken pictures of Mum’s milestones – and when the time came to celebrate her life, we were so lucky to have thousands of precious memories,” Graham says.
“Now, those photos are among our family’s most treasured possessions.
“It’s a wonderful thing being able to look back on Mum’s life and see all the brilliant moments she experienced.”
When he returned to work in the weeks after his mother’s passing, Graham decided to look back through his archived images, and the idea for the book was borne.
“I was looking through hundreds of images I’d taken of local families back in the 90’s and early 2000’s and began to wonder where all these people were,” he said.
“Family portraits in recent years have given way to iPhone photos and it made me so sad to think that there was no permanent record of these families in 2018.
“So, I tracked down as many of them as I could, grabbed my camera, and started shooting.”
The stunning images featured in “Past and Present” tell a beautiful story of the families involved, creating a timeline of their lives to be treasured for years to come.
“The response has been overwhelming – and I’ve already got the next book planned for next year,” he says.
Graham launches his book on Thursday October 25, at Boronia House. To view some of the Mosman families featured, check out our gallery now - and if you’d like to be in the next book, you can contact gmphotographics for further enquiries.
