Review: The Boathouse, Balmoral
By LISA HECTOR
Sunday breakfast at the Boathouse has become one of those bucket list experiences, attracting visitors from around the world keen to sample a little bit of Mosman luxury, for a fraction of the price.
The beachside, family friendly eatery is a local landmark that captures the best of Sydney’s stunning views with its laid back, casual vibe.
Weekends are busiest, especially in the mornings - when you can expect hordes of hungry people. But thankfully, there’s gorgeous Balmoral beach to admire, with its shimmering water and pristine sand. Just the thing to take our minds off rumbling tummies!
The Boathouse has a queue-and-order system, with the breakfast and lunch menus offering healthy AND hearty options, catering to all ages and tastes. We manage to grab a table overlooking the water (which seated our family of four comfortably) and the kids eagerly slurped down their cold pressed juice, made with watermelon, raspberry, lime and mint ($8) before the breakfast procession began!
I decided on the Avocado + Tomato Toast, served with feta, fresh basil, sourdough and lemon ($18) – and it didn’t disappoint. Having only recently moved to Australia from Scotland, I can honestly say I’ve never eaten so much avocado in my life! And with a cheeky side of bacon, it made for a generous, filling morning meal.
Our seven-year-old daughter Stella inhaled a huge croissant (also with a side of bacon!) but her highlight was an icy cold chocolate milkshake, made the old-fashioned way, with lots of syrup and topped with a cute paper straw.
Friendly staff (who actually seem to be enjoying themselves!) and great coffee are an added bonus here – along with a good selection of teas (including chai), hot chocolates and iced lattes.
With its breezy interior, huge floral arrangements, beautiful tubs overflowing with fresh fruit and super cool black board menus, the Boathouse is a real winner for us. We’ll definitely be back.
