Mosman Art Lovers: Explore hundreds of stunning works from talented local artists this weekend!

Published On: March 18, 2021

Art lovers are in for a treat over the next few weeks, with a number of brilliant locals showcasing hundreds of artworks in various media, including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, textiles and video.

Rick Carlino, husband of popular hairdresser Lucky Kennis, opens his much-anticipated solo exhibition “Mr Carlino talks way too much in class” tonight (Thursday 18 march) at M Contemporary in Darlinghurst.

Carlino creates vivid contemporary artworks which showcase his love of colour, with his latest series incorporating resin and layering to create a depth “that plays with colour and light to create high impact art works,” he says.

On Saturday (20 March) Headland Artists will host their biannual Open Studio Day and Landship Exhibition at Georges Heights. Open between 10 am and 4 pm, visitors are encouraged to explore and discover the works of 20 artists, with smooth jazz tunes provided by Mary Queen of Sax and Co.

The free exhibition will run daily until 28 March.

Pamela Towemy, one of the original artists to take up residence at Headland Park, said the event marks a special moment in the organisation’s history.

“I have been fortunate enough to be a part of the Headland Artist community and enjoy a studio space at Headland Park to explore my artistic practice for 15 years. The site has proven to be a source of great inspiration with the added benefit of enabling me to participate in this thriving artistic community,” said Ms Towemy.

“The artists at Headland park are proud of the achievement of this joint project in maintaining and preserving this heritage site for artistic practice. We look forward to this ongoing relationship with the Harbour Trust that provides benefit to the public as well as the artistic community,” she said.

Other members of the Harbour Trust tenant community will also join in the Rediscovery Days by running special events and promotions, including a Chocolate Making course at Sydney School of Chocolate at Middle Head.

Closer to town, Mosman Art Gallery opens Artists of Mosman: 2088 this weekend.

Artists of Mosman: 2088 continues the rich tradition of art-making which has been upheld by scores of artists, writers and poets throughout the 20th century to the present day. The annual exhibition is a diverse survey of the region’s thriving artistic community and includes works created by Mosman residents as well as Friends and volunteers of the Gallery.
