Mosman Collective: Congratulations guys .. we are absolutely thrilled for you both! Matt, tell us about the high level of secrecy that went into the big announcement ...
Matt: Well, Bronte had long suspected that I would do something ultra public, which is truly outrageous - but I suppose I can see why she'd think that. So, I actually asked her to be my wife in the privacy of our lounge room! What she didn't anticipate however, was the thing that came next!
MC: Which was?
Matt: I organised a surprise harbour cruise on this unbelievably beautiful, very private yacht. She was totally overwhelmed when we arrived - and then 35 of our closest friends and family came out to greet us. Bronte was absolutely blindsided, she had no idea. And it was a spectacular moment!
MC: How did you manage to keep all of this under wraps?
Matt: Threats of physical violence! But seriously, I think when the secret is that big, people are excited to be part of the build up and no one wanted to ruin the moment. It took so much planning to make sure the guests were all free on the date - and on a personal level it was wonderful being able to share the occasion with my nearest and dearest. I don't know how I would have coped if it was on my own!
MC: Bronte, tell us about "the moment" ...
Bronte: Matt is right, I was absolutely petrified that he would do something embarrassing or outrageous and propose on Nova - or on the TV! But when it finally happened, I had absolutely no idea the question was coming. And it was perfect in every way. Then, being able to celebrate with those closest to us, truly made it the best day of my life.
MC: So when is the big day?
Bronte: We're looking at March, 2019. Some venues are already booked out, so we need to get planning!
MC: Any chance that Fitzy and Wippa might be Best Men?
Matt: Let's just say they'll do well to even get an invite. Considering many people at first thought the proposal was a stitch up, I can officially declare that the boys have done more than enough!
MC: Matt, you've lived in Mosman for about three years now. What first drew you to the area?
Matt: Well, that’s a no brainer. It’s Mosman. The air is cleaner, the grass is greener, the people are more attractive and every car is an SUV or 4WD!
MC: Where did you both grow up?
Matt: I grew up in the mighty Coffs Harbour. Bronte maintains it’s a small country town. I consistently remind her it’s a major coastal hub and does NOT have a Target Country.
Bronte: I grew up in Cronulla and most of my family are still there. One of Matt’s quirks is referring to the main street of his home town Coffs as the city. Ridiculous!
MC: There are so many media identities living in Mosman. Any idea why?
Matt: I think we all just like to be near Richard Wilkins’ house, on the off chance he invites you over for a spur of the moment swim in one of his two pools, or a gin-and-gin-and-gin-and-gin-and tonic!
Bronte: Hi Richard!
MC: Are Fitzy and Wippa likely to call Mosman home any time soon?
Matt: Wippa likes to consider himself one of those high-falootin' Eastern Suburbs types .. and we wouldn’t want him here, trust me. As for Fitzy, his insane collection of indy rock band t-shirts and skinny black jeans would look out of place in 2088. And we wouldn’t want him here either!
MC: Do you think they could cope with living in Mosman?
Matt: A better question is: "Does Mosman WANT to cope with Fitzy and Wippa"? The answer is a firm NO. We are better than that!
MC: Fitzy and Wippa love a good stitch up, what’s the biggest stunt they’ve pulled on you Matt?
Matt: One morning while I was at work, they organised a removalist to come into my house and get ALL the furniture out, before moving it down to Manly Corso. ALL of it. The bed, floor runners, dining tables, the TV .. everything I owned was set up down there. It still makes me laugh!
MC: Bronte, apart from the proposal, what's the most romantic thing Matt has ever done for you?
Bronte: Last night he let me pick dinner at Chargrill Charlies!
MC: What’s the best advice you can give to someone who is visiting our area for the first time?
Matt: You’ll never be satisfied with where you live, ever again!
MC: Finish this sentence: Mosman is.....
Matt: God’s country. Many don’t know this, but on the Sixth day God actually created Mosman. And on the Seventh day he rested.
Bronte: The birthplace of black SUVs.
MC: Congratulations again you two. It's going to be quite a wedding. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful news with us!
Matt: Always our pleasure Anna!
