Jo Casamento: The glamorous TV journalist chats with Mosman Collective about owning her 40's
WHEN IT COMES TO BEAUTY, JOURNALIST JO CASAMENTO KNOWS A THING OR TWO! THE POPULAR TELEVISION PRESENTER SHARES THE SECRETS BEHIND HER GLOWING GOOD LOOKS WITH ANNA USHER, INCLUDING THE SKIN CARE AND MAKEUP PRODUCTS SHE CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT.
Thanks so much for chatting with us, Jo. You are the perfect combination of brains, beauty - and a whole lot of sass! What's your secret?
Well. Wow. Thank you ... what a compliment. That's waaaaaay too kind, Anna!
I guess I was raised in a family that valued education - so there was always a certain level of vibrant academic discussion in my house. Loud discussions around the dinner table were the centrepiece of my childhood. No one ever agreed with anyone!
I'm actually the black sheep of the family and they are all doctors, scientists, teachers and nurses - far more noble professions than mine!
Beauty? I can thank a lot of hard work and good wog genes perhaps!
Sass? Well, that comes from being one of eight kids. You have to spark up if you want to be heard!
We are so used to seeing you glammed up on our TV screens. What's your beauty routine off camera?
Well let me just say that I'm not someone who rolls out of bed looking fantastic, that's for sure!
A beach holiday (clean skin, frizzy hair and going natural) is my idea of a nightmare - and on the rare occasions it happens, my own kids don't even recognise me!
I definitely do a face - as much as I'd like to say I don't have to!
Pigmentation from pregnancy and sun damage from growing up on Maroubra beach, means I don't like to leave the house without foundation on. If I have good hair and skin, I feel as though I can go out for the day with confidence. I always wear foundation and mascara, even on the school run - and I'm totally obsessed with a good blow dry and you'll often find me in Double Bay at Joh Bailey or Blow Bar Co.
Describe your style?
Over the top! And very feminine. I love sparkles, pink, glitz - and anything that makes a statement.
I've toned down as I've aged, but the razzle-dazzle always creeps in. To be honest, I probably would have been a great show girl!
I know what suits my body and pretty much stick to a tried and tested formula. I have big boobs and need to wear a bra, so that pretty much eliminates anything strapless, halter or one-shouldered! What I'm left with is my own particular style.
If we peeked, what would we find in your handbag?
A mess! Lots of lippies and lip gloss in different shades of pink. Eye drops. Chewing Gum. Perfume. A few movie ticket receipts. Maybe some spare earrings. Always a spare set of fake eyelashes! Definitely some deodorant. And a small can of hair spray, pens and a phone charger.
Your go-to skin care and beauty products?
I love Rationale for skin care. It's the only skin formula I have ever tried that genuinely makes a difference.
I love Napoelan for shadows, blush, bronzer, mascara and eyeliner.
When it comes to foundation, I use Giorgio Armani mixed with Nars (from Mecca) - because matching a spray tan can be tricky.
And my skin is really dry so I love MOR Marshmallow body moisturiser.

How important are looks when it comes to your job?
I have never, ever felt pressure to look a certain way.
The best advice I was given as a young journalist was to turn up for work looking like you were about to interview the Prime Minister - and that has stayed with me throughout my career.
It's important to put your best foot forward and it's better to be over dressed rather than under dressed. I learnt that from working with Kate Waterhouse, who is probably the best dressed woman on the planet!
Is health and fitness important to you? How often do you exercise?
Um zilch .. although I do intend to get that pilates studio nearby soon .. I promise!
I did 20 years of classical ballet training and dance, so I think my muscles have good memory - but aside from walking the dog each day, I'm pretty hopeless.
Can we ask how old you are?
I just turned 43. And I feel great about it, although I must say that I wish I could stop the clock! While I've never felt better, I'm now on "the other side of the hill" and it can be daunting, because there's still so much that I want to achieve.
Do you have some secrets from the makeup chair? What have you learned from the professionals?
1. I use eyedrops every morning. They can make even the most sleepless night go away!
2. Groomed eyebrows are everything!
3. A spray tan opens your wardrobe options up. Every single time.
I'm a big believer in sticking with what you like. Don't let someone else tell you how you should look and maintain your own individual style. I still sneak my own shade of lipstick on set every time I'm on TV (much to the make up girls' distress!) I just don't feel like me without it!
What's your favourite quote to live by?
Life isn't waiting for the storm to pass, it's about dancing in the rain! I'm also partial to a bit of Disney wisdom, so you'll often find me singing "Let it Go", from the movie Frozen. It's amazing how many times each day you can use that mantra!
Thanks so much for your time lovely Jo. We're so thrilled you found time to chat with Mosman Collective!
Always my pleasure Anna. And congratulations on the new website. We all LOVE it!
