My Mosman: Newsreader Matt de Groot Reveals His Favourite Local Places
MATT de GROOT IS ONE OF SYDNEY'S MOST POPULAR NEWSREADERS, AND A MUCH LOVED MEMBER OF THE FITZY AND WIPPA BREAKFAST TEAM ON NOVA 96.9FM. HE ALSO CALLS MOSMAN HOME, WITH HIS JOURNALIST FIANCEE BRONTE COY. THIS WEEK, MATT SHARES HIS FAVOURITE LOCAL VENUES TO EAT, DRINK AND PLAY, ONLY WITH MOSMAN COLLECTIVE!
By ANNA USHER
Anna: You know how much we love you here at Mosman Collective, Matt. And we're so pleased you're sharing your special local spots with us. Fingers crossed Fitzy and Wippa don't take the complete piss next week!
Matt: Pleasure as always Anna. I love doing all I can to promote Mosman and its wonderful people!
Anna: Let's start with coffee. Where do you get your caffeine fix in Mosman?
Matt: Don Adan is easy for me to get to. They also put a Tiny Teddy on your coffee lid, which is almost worth the price of admission alone.
Anna: Do you and wife-to-be Bronte have a favourite local haunt?
Matt: I would say The Hunter. We were there the other night and it’s just great food, a great vibe and the wait staff are all cool young guys.
MC: When it comes to Mosman stores, where do you like to visit?
Matt: I did like Herringbone and Marcs near Albion Lane, but they’ve both gone out of business so I’m not sure what that says about me!
Bronte also has a real love for taking us to homewares stores to look at items that would neither fit inside our apartment, or we could afford, which is always fun!
Anna: Best brekkie place?
Matt: For me its August The Old Place on Military Rd.
They’ve gone through a few owners but seem to have finally landed on a winning menu and it’s a big open area.
Albion Lane café also does an outrageously good salmon, avocado and bread thingy.
Bronte says her favourite place on the weekends is Avenue Road, for their great pancakes.
Anna: There are so many media identities living in Mosman. Why do you think that is?
Matt: I think we all just like to be near Richard Wilkins’ house, on the off chance he invites you over for a spur of the moment swim in one of his two pools, or a gin-and-gin-and-gin-and tonic!
Anna: Speaking of drinking, we know that you like to kick back for a few quiet ones at the end of a hard week. Where do you go? And what do you like to sip on?
Matt: Normally we go to The Buena. It's a great local pub, especially now that its been re-done and downstairs doesn’t smell like a used bathroom anymore!
Mosman could do with a few more sneaky little wine bars though, what do you reckon?
In terms of drinking, a nice bottle of Pinot Noir is a nice way to wash down a nice bottle of Pinot Noir! Love the stuff.
Anna: Where do you go locally when you need to unwind?
Matt: I absolutely love the Bradleys Head Ampitheatre.
Its stunningly quiet, tucked away and you can just chill there, watch Sydney go by - and feel like you're a million miles away.
Anna: What’s the best advice you can give to someone visiting Mosman for the first time?
Matt: You’ll never be satisfied with where you live, ever again!
Anna: Finish this sentence: Mosman is …..
Matt: God’s country.
Many don’t know this, but on the Sixth day God actually created Mosman. And on the Seventh day he rested!
